Sprendlingen Plastic Plant Fire Extinguished, Residents Return
A large fire broke out on Sunday afternoon at a plastic‑processing plant in Sprendlingen, Rhineland‑Palatinate. Around 230‑250 emergency personnel—including firefighters, THW, police and auxiliary services—fought the blaze under high temperatures, using water drawn from the nearby Wiesbach stream and a local swimming pool.
Six residents were evacuated from nearby homes; the evacuation order was lifted on Monday morning after the fire was declared under control and later fully extinguished. No casualties were reported, though one firefighter was examined for exhaustion. The incident forced the closure of the railway line through Sprendlingen, with a replacement bus service provided until the tracks were reopened.
Authorities warned locals about smoke, ash and possible residue, advising windows be kept closed. The cause of the fire remains under investigation, and a fire watch continues at the site.
