Spring allergies affect five million people in Chile

Approximately five million people in Chile suffer from respiratory or ocular allergies, which often intensify during the spring season. According to the World Allergy Organization, at least 20% of the global population experiences these pathologies, with prevalence exceeding 40% in adults.

Increased pollen levels from trees such as plane trees, poplars, acacia, and walnuts contribute to symptoms like sneezing, nasal congestion, throat itching, and eye irritation. These symptoms typically peak between late August and October, though grasses and weeds can extend the period of discomfort.

Medical experts advise monitoring the frequency and intensity of symptoms. While many issues are common, individuals should seek medical attention if they experience persistent discomfort, difficulty breathing, chest tightness, wheezing, or allergic asthma.
