Spring Grove police-involved crash leaves one dead, eight injured

A multi-vehicle collision involving a Spring Grove Police Department squad car resulted in at least one death and eight injuries on Sunday afternoon. The crash occurred at the intersection of Route 12 and Spring Grove Road in McHenry County.

Emergency responders, including the Spring Grove Fire Protection District and the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, arrived at the scene around 2:05 p.m. Reports indicate that at least four vehicles were involved in the collision, which caused heavy damage to the vehicles, including a Kia SUV and a police SUV.

Medical personnel utilized two helicopters to assist with the injured. One victim was airlifted to Javon Bea Hospital in Rockford, while four others were transported to Northwestern Medicine McHenry Hospital. One woman has died following the incident. Authorities closed the intersection for an extended period to clear debris and investigate the scene, reopening the roadway later that evening.
