Spring Valley schools placed on lockdown during shotgun incident
A shelter-in-place order was issued for a residential area in Spring Valley, Minnesota, following a disturbance involving a shotgun. The incident, reported around 1:15 p.m. on Fairview Street, prompted Kingsland Public Schools to enter lockdown as a precaution, as the location was approximately 1,000 feet from the school property.
Fillmore County Sheriff John DeGeorge reported that after an initial disturbance call, a second 911 call stated a man was outside a residence with a shotgun. Deputies established a perimeter and made contact with the subject. Within approximately one hour, the individual was taken into custody without further incident, and all lockdown and shelter-in-place advisories were lifted. The investigation remains ongoing. The response included assistance from the Preston Police Department, Minnesota State Patrol, a Minnesota conservation officer, and the Olmsted County Sheriff's Office.
