Spring weather system brings heavy rain and hail to Aconcagua

A spring frontal system has brought intense weather to the Aconcagua province in Chile, characterized by heavy rainfall, hail, wind, and thunderstorms. In the San Felipe de Aconcagua province, average precipitation reached approximately 29 millimeters.

The weather caused localized flooding in Curimón and road closures in Santa María, specifically in the Las Cabras and El Medio sectors due to rising water levels. In Catemu, authorities evacuated residents from the San Carlos Alto area as a precaution against potential mass movements caused by the rain.

Meteorological projections suggest that these precipitation anomalies may continue, with some models indicating rainfall levels up to 350% above normal due to El Niño. Experts note the possibility of continued rain affecting the Santiago region through the end of the year.
