Springbok Women face Wales in WXV Global Series opener

The Springbok Women are set to begin their WXV Global Series campaign against Wales at Cardiff Arms Park. Co-coaches Franzel September and Laurian Johannes-Haupt have announced a revised starting lineup, incorporating several changes to the squad following their recent match against the Black Ferns.

Key selections include Logan Welman starting at No 8, with Aseza Hele moving to the bench. Felicia Jacobs and Maria Tshiremba return to the starting XV, while Maceala Samboya will partner Aphiwe Ngwevu in the midfield. The coaching staff noted that these selections aim to build squad depth and provide high-level experience as part of the long-term preparation for the 2029 Women’s Rugby World Cup.

Following the opening match in Wales, South Africa’s WXV schedule includes fixtures against Italy in Fontanafredda on 26 September, Spain in Seville on 4 October, and two matches against Ireland in Cape Town on 24 and 31 October.
