Springboks and All Blacks prepare for high-stakes rugby series

As the All Blacks prepare for a four-Test series against the Springboks, tensions are rising regarding playing styles and squad depth. Former Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer suggested that the All Blacks may lack the necessary depth to compete with South Africa over a long series, noting that many high-profile New Zealand players have moved to overseas clubs.

Meyer emphasized that South Africa’s strength lies in their experienced forward pack and superior set-piece, which he believes will be decisive in a high-pressure series. He noted that the Springboks have demonstrated an ability to win even when not playing at their peak, as seen in their recent victory against Argentina.

Meanwhile, All Blacks coach Dave Rennie is pushing for a faster, more continuous style of play. Following a 54-0 victory over the Sharks, Rennie called for referees to minimize delays and discourage teams from slowing down the game through excessive time-taking at restarts or during minor injury stoppages. Rennie aims to use high ball-in-play time and attacking intent to apply pressure on opponents.
