Japan has won the Pacific Nations Cup after defeating Fiji 20-15 in a close final held in Tokyo. The victory, secured by a late try from Samisoni Tua, allows Japan to climb to 9th in the world rankings, overtaking Italy. Japan's head coach, Eddie Jones, credited the team's defensive intensity and scrum dominance for the win.

In preparation for the 2027 Rugby World Cup, the South African Springboks have confirmed a final warm-up Test against Fiji. The match, titled ‘Contest on the Coast’, is scheduled for September 18, 2027, at Polytec Stadium in Gosford, Australia. Both teams will utilize the New South Wales Central Coast as a high-performance training base during their stay.

Fiji is also scheduled to face Japan again in October for a one-off Test to celebrate the 100th anniversary of the Japan Rugby Football Union. Fiji head coach Senirusi Seruvakula emphasized the importance of regular international matches to build momentum ahead of the upcoming Nations Championship and European campaigns.
