Springdale residents protest proposed Dynamo DC data center
Residents of Springdale, Pennsylvania, are organizing against a proposal by Dynamo DC to transform a former coal-fired power plant site into a massive data center campus. Protesters, including members of the group Save Allegheny Valley Environment, held a public hearing to voice opposition to the project.
Key concerns raised by community members include potential noise pollution from water cooling systems and the use of 124 proposed diesel backup generators. Residents also expressed fears regarding electricity shortages and the impact on local property and environment. While building trades representatives highlighted the potential for construction jobs, their comments were met with vocal opposition from the crowd.
Although the Springdale borough council approved a conditional use permit for the project in December, opponents are now looking to Allegheny County’s land development review process as a final opportunity to halt the development. The developer stated that they have addressed various public comments regarding tree canopies, ADA compliance, and diesel generation in a formal letter to the county.
