Springfield Cardinals to rebrand with new name in 2027

The Springfield Cardinals, a Double-A baseball club, have announced they will change their team name starting in 2027. The organization will unveil the new permanent name, logos, and uniforms on October 6 at Route 66 Stadium.

General Manager Dan Reiter stated the rebranding aims to create a unique identity for the franchise that is more closely tied to Springfield and southwest Missouri. Reiter noted that the team currently shares the Cardinals name with several other organizations, including the St. Louis Cardinals, which requires constant explanation.

Despite the name change, the team will remain in Springfield, continue playing at the same stadium, and maintain its affiliation with the St. Louis Cardinals. While the new name has been selected, it has not yet been revealed. Speculation among fans suggests a potential connection to the area's history as the birthplace of Route 66, following the recent renaming of Hammons Field to Route 66 Stadium.
