Spritz cocktails drive significant summer beverage sales growth
Data from the payments platform Square indicates a significant shift in consumer beverage preferences, with spritz-style cocktails driving summer sales. While the Aperol Spritz remains popular, other varieties saw higher growth rates, including the Hugo Spritz, which increased by 153.2% year-over-year, the Limoncello Spritz up 75%, and the Campari Spritz up 68.5%. A new entry, the Sarti Spritz, also appeared in recent data.
This trend toward lighter, lower-alcohol options has seen spritz orders in the U.S. increase approximately 22-fold between 2016 and 2025. During this period, the average price per spritz rose from $4.89 to $10.49. Conversely, orders for higher-alcohol classics like the Old Fashioned, Mojito, and Manhattan saw slight declines.
As the season transitions to autumn, interest is shifting toward different cocktail profiles, such as the golden mojito, which offers warmer flavor notes suitable for cooler weather.
