Spritz cocktails see rising global popularity amid summer heat
The popularity of spritz-style cocktails is rising globally, driven by extreme summer temperatures and a shift in consumer habits toward lighter, refreshing beverages. While the Aperol Spritz remains a dominant force in Europe and the United States, competition is increasing. In the United Kingdom, sales of the Aperol Spritz were recently surpassed by the Hugo Spritz, which utilizes elderflower liqueur.
In the United States, a viral beer-based cocktail known as the ‘spaghett’—also referred to as the ‘hobo negroni’ or ‘trailer park spritz’—has gained traction. The drink consists of Aperol and lemon juice mixed with Miller Lite beer. Originally created a decade ago at Wet City Brewing in Baltimore, the cocktail has seen a resurgence in popularity due to its simplicity and suitability for hot weather.
