Sprix Education Foundation conducts international basic academic skills survey
The Sprix Education Foundation has released preliminary results from its ‘International Basic Academic Skills Survey 2026’. Conducted between April and August 2026, the study targeted elementary and junior high school students, parents, and teachers across 10 countries, including Japan.
The survey specifically focuses on basic academic skills, with a particular emphasis on mathematical calculation abilities using the TOFAS international assessment. It also examines the educational environment by surveying the attitudes and practices of students, parents, and educators regarding home learning, parental involvement, and teaching methods.
A primary objective of the research is to compare the educational landscapes of Japan—noted for high academic standards in PISA assessments—with those of countries in the Global South. The foundation aims to provide data-driven insights to help improve educational policies and address gaps in basic academic foundations globally.
