Správa železnic delays Ostrava-Zábřeh railway stop construction

The Czech railway administration, Správa železnic (SŽ), has postponed the construction of the new Ostrava-Zábřeh railway stop. While previous plans estimated construction would begin in 2028, the current investment map indicates the project will now start no earlier than 2032.

This delay is part of a broader shift in investment priorities. SŽ spokesperson Nela Eberl Friebová stated that the schedule change follows a reassessment of current priorities. The new stop, intended to improve rail accessibility near the Avion shopping center and the Výškovice residential area, has faced multiple delays; earlier investment plans from 2020 had originally targeted completion between 2023 and 2024.

In addition to the Ostrava-Zábřeh project, SŽ has also delayed the modernization and electrification of lines from Frýdek-Místek toward Frenštát pod Radhoštěm and Ostravice, with work now pushed beyond 2032. The organization's new leadership has noted that it is not possible to finance and implement all prepared projects within the previously assumed timelines.
