Trump attends Knicks‑Spurs NBA Finals Game 3 amid heightened security
Game 3 of the 2026 NBA Finals took place at Madison Square Garden, with the New York Knicks hosting the San Antonio Spurs. The Knicks entered the series leading 2‑0 and were playing their first home Finals game in 27 years.
President Donald Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to attend an NBA Finals game. Invited by Knicks owner James Dolan, he sat in a private suite with members of his administration and family. During the national anthem his image on the jumbotron drew loud boos from the crowd, which later turned to cheers when the focus shifted to Knicks star Jalen Brunson.
Because of the president’s presence, the Secret Service, TSA‑style screening and the NYPD established a multi‑block security perimeter around the arena. A no‑bag policy, metal‑detector checks and vehicle closures forced fans to arrive two hours early, creating kilometre‑long lines. Watch parties outside the Garden were cancelled, and a substitute gathering was moved to Bryant Park.
The event also attracted a parade of celebrities—Ben Stiller, Spike Lee, Timothée Chalamet, Kylie Jenner and others—who filled the court‑side “Celebrity Row.” Fans staged unusual displays of support, such as a man attempting to say Jalen Brunson’s name 100,000 times outside the venue. Ticket‑price data showed the get‑in cost for Game 3 fell about 49 % to roughly $4,700 after earlier spikes.
Overall, the game combined a historic on‑court matchup, unprecedented presidential attendance, extensive security measures and heightened fan and media attention.
