SpVgg Greuther Fürth to vote on potential name reversion
SpVgg Greuther Fürth has announced an extraordinary general meeting scheduled for November 8, where members will vote on a potential name change. The proposal involves reverting the club's name to its historical title, SpVgg Fürth.
The club originally competed as SpVgg Fürth and won three German championships in 1914, 1926, and 1929. Due to financial difficulties in 1996, the club merged with the football department of TSV Vestenbergsgreuth, resulting in the current name.
Club leadership, including the presidency, supervisory board, economic advisory board, and honorary council, has agreed to remain neutral and will not issue a formal recommendation regarding the vote. The meeting is set to take place at the Stadion am Ronhof.
During a recent press conference, head coach Heiko Vogel declined to comment on the potential name change, stating his focus remains on the upcoming match against 1. FC Magdeburg.
