Spyridon Tsironis raises pension and military allowance issues in Greece
Greek MP Spyridon Tsironis has submitted two separate parliamentary reports addressing financial grievances regarding pensions and military allowances.
In the first matter, Tsironis raised concerns from retired merchants in Achaia regarding significant income losses. The Union of Retired Merchants of Achaia claims that due to the offsetting of personal differences, many retirees received only a 1.2% increase between 2023 and 2026, whereas those without such differences saw cumulative increases of approximately 16.37%. The Union is requesting retroactive compensation to address this economic gap.
In the second matter, Tsironis addressed inequalities in the distribution of border allowances for military personnel. According to the Panhellenic Federation of Military Unions, soldiers serving in the same geographic locations or even on the same camp may be denied the €130 allowance if their specific unit is not designated as a ‘Forward Unit’. The Federation is calling for uniform, objective geographic criteria to ensure all personnel serving in remote border areas receive the benefit, regardless of their unit's specific designation.
