Spyros Georgiou presents folklore book in Kefalos, Kos
Sociologist and educator Spyros Georgiou presented his book, ‘Three Paralogoi from Kefalos of Kos’, at the Kefalos Spiritual Center on October 24. The event was organized by the Hippocrates Urban Company in collaboration with the Kefalos Municipal Community.
The book focuses on three ‘paralogoi’—multi-stanza, narrative folk songs that recount dramatic, fictionalized stories set in pre-revolutionary Greece. These stories explore various social themes: one involves a moral tragedy regarding infanticide, another depicts a social conflict leading to fratricide and suicide, and the third examines class and family dynamics involving a mother-in-law and a daughter-in-law.
Through these narratives, Georgiou examines the social fabric, family bonds, and cultural identity of the Kefalos region. Speakers at the event, including Dr. Dimitrios Geroukalis, emphasized the importance of documenting oral traditions to preserve collective memory and connect younger generations to their local roots.
