Square Enix Announces Final Fantasy X 25th Anniversary Switch-2 HD Remaster

Square Enix released a 25th‑anniversary trailer for Final Fantasy X and confirmed a Switch‑2 port slated for 23 July. The new version will feature a full HD visual and audio overhaul, but existing Switch owners will not receive a free upgrade or discounted trade‑in, meaning they must purchase the new edition at full price.

In a related interview, series producer Yoshinori Kitase and developer Takashi Tokita explained that the game’s original concept leaned toward a science‑fiction style similar to earlier Final Fantasy titles. The team switched to a fantasy focus after noting Hollywood’s shift toward fantasy franchises such as The Lord of the Rings, aligning the game with contemporary trends.
