Square Enix announces free updates for Octopath Traveler 0

Square Enix has announced two free updates for the upcoming prequel Octopath Traveler 0. The first update, scheduled for December, will introduce crossover characters to the game, including Elliot from The Adventures of Elliot and characters from Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Content. While these characters cannot participate in combat, they can provide players with special items once a town reaches level 8.

A second free update will introduce an “ultimate enemy” to the monster arena. Players who successfully defeat this boss will earn a special decoration.

Octopath Traveler 0 features the series' signature HD-2D graphics and introduces new mechanics, such as the ability for players to create a customized protagonist and rebuild their hometown. Some consumer concerns have been noted regarding the Switch 2 physical edition, which is expected to be a game key card requiring a 5 GB download, and the lack of an upgrade path from the Switch 1 version to the Switch 2 version.
