Square Enix develops Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Kingdom Hearts IV
Square Enix director Naoki Hamaguchi has confirmed that both Final Fantasy VII Revelation and Kingdom Hearts IV are currently under development at Creative Studio 1. Hamaguchi noted that the company views 2027 as a pivotal year for its resurgence, with these two major titles playing central roles in that strategy.
Regarding Final Fantasy VII Revelation, Hamaguchi detailed upcoming gameplay mechanics involving the Materia system. New features include Materia tied to specific “FITS” (equipment requirements), combined Materia such as “Glut & Frost,” and triple-linked Materia slots on certain armor to enhance effects. The game is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, for PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and Nintendo Switch 2.
Additionally, Hamaguchi addressed the possibility of audiovisual adaptations for the Final Fantasy VII franchise. While no official film or series has been announced, he stated that Square Enix constantly evaluates opportunities for new animated or live-action projects.
