Square Enix JRPG series Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross overview
The Japanese Role-Playing Game (JRPG) series developed by Square (now Square Enix) includes the highly acclaimed Chrono Trigger and its sequel, Chrono Cross.
Chrono Trigger, originally released for the Super Nintendo in 1995, follows the character Chrono as he travels through various time periods, from prehistory to the year 2300, to prevent the destruction of the world by a creature known as Lavos. The game is noted for its seamless combat system, multiple endings, and character-driven side quests. It remains available on platforms including PC (Steam), iOS, and Android.
Chrono Cross, released in 1999 for the Sony PlayStation, serves as a sequel to Chrono Trigger. The story follows a young man named Serge who is transported to a parallel world. In this version of reality, Serge died ten years prior, and he must work with a character named Kid to uncover the mysteries of his death and seek the fabled Frozen Flame. A Radical Dreamers Edition of the game was released in 2022 for the Nintendo Switch, marking the first time the title was officially published in Europe.
