Square Enix launches new Dragon Quest monster figurine collection

Square Enix announced the release of the "Dragon Quest 3D Monster Encyclopedia Figurine – Grand Collection Special" on November 11. The set features nine monster dioramas, including Slime, King Slime, Metal Slime, Mimic, Bomb Rock, Wandering Armor, Golem, Killer Machine and Gigantes. Individual figures are priced at ¥1,650 and the nine‑piece box at ¥14,850, with pre‑orders available through the Square Enix e‑STORE.

A separate commentary noted how the Dragon Quest series has reshaped classic mythological creatures. The game's Chimera, for example, bears little resemblance to the Greek Chimera of Homer's Iliad, appearing instead as a hybrid with a vulture head and a snake‑like body. Such redesigns illustrate the franchise’s broader impact on Japanese visual culture and the evolving perception of mythic monsters.
