Square Enix marks Final Fantasy X 25th anniversary with HD remaster and commemorative video
Square Enix commemorated the 25th anniversary of Final Fantasy X, originally released on 19 July 2001 in Japan, with a short special video posted on its official YouTube channel. The video revisits key story moments and features the game’s iconic “Zanarkand” theme.
Alongside the video, the publisher announced an HD remaster of Final Fantasy X and its sequel X‑2 for the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, scheduled for late July. New music albums, a fan‑art contest, and a mobile spin‑off story have also been unveiled. European fans will receive only a digital version, while the physical release in Japan appears to be limited.
Additional promotional efforts include a set of anniversary‑related products, interviews with original creators, and rumors of a possible Final Fantasy X‑3 sequel, underscoring the lasting impact of the title on the JRPG genre.
