Square Enix reports high digital sales and announces future game pipeline

Square Enix has reported its financial results for the first quarter of the current fiscal year (April to June 2025), highlighting a significant shift toward digital distribution. Within the HD Games and MMO segments, digital downloads accounted for approximately 90.1 percent of sales, with 6.65 million units downloaded compared to 0.73 million physical copies sold. While the digital percentage has increased from 86 percent in the previous year, physical unit sales actually grew from 0.56 million to 0.73 million during the same period.

The company's mobile and PC browser business remains its largest revenue driver, generating 19.4 billion yen, surpassing the 17.7 billion yen produced by the HD Games segment.

Looking ahead, Square Enix has several major titles in its pipeline scheduled for release through 2027. Announced projects include titles from the Dragon Quest, Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts franchises. Specific upcoming releases include Dragon Quest XI S (September 2026), a Kingdom Hearts Collection (October 2026), and Final Fantasy VII Revelation (Spring 2027), among others.
