Square Enix reveals details for Final Fantasy VII Revelation

Naoki Hamaguchi, director of Final Fantasy VII Revelation, has shared new details regarding the game's combat mechanics, scale, and release window. The title is scheduled for release on April 8, 2027, for PlayStation 5 and Nintendo Switch 2.

In terms of gameplay, the title will introduce new synergy attacks involving three characters. To maintain combat balance and prevent gameplay from becoming monotonous, these trio abilities will be restricted to specific moments in the campaign rather than being available at all times. This builds upon the duo-based synergy system seen in Final Fantasy VII Rebirth.

The game is expected to feature a main story length of approximately 50 hours, with completionists likely exceeding 100 hours due to expanded exploration. Hamaguchi stated the game will be larger and more extensive than Rebirth, featuring increased verticality, labyrinthine environments, and new cities. The world map will include previously seen areas alongside new regions, including a return to Midgar.
