Square Enix sees sales surge for Final Fantasy VII remake trilogy after Revelation announcement
Square Enix announced that the reveal of Final Fantasy VII Revelation at Summer Game Fest 2026 has triggered a significant sales boost for the earlier entries in the remake trilogy, Final Fantasy VII Remake and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth. Director Naoki Hamaguchi said the two titles are now selling “several times better” than expected, with the PC market – especially English‑speaking and Simplified Chinese players – driving much of the growth.
In parallel, Hamaguchi explained that the new FITS (Function Integrated Tactical Suitwear) system in Revelation will give each character only four distinct classes. He cited the increasing graphical and animation complexity of modern games as the reason why offering the dozens of jobs seen in earlier Final Fantasy titles is “insanely difficult” for a standalone release. While the limitation reduces variety, Hamaguchi stressed that the four FITS still provide strategic depth and are not a flaw.
The combined effect of the announcement, expanded PC availability, and the streamlined combat system is expected to sustain strong demand for the trilogy ahead of Revelation’s planned 2027 launch.
