Square Enix announces Final Fantasy Resonance with HD-2D graphics

Square Enix has announced Final Fantasy Resonance, the first title in the franchise to utilize HD-2D graphics. The game is an adaptation of the first arc of the mobile title Final Fantasy: Brave Exvius and is scheduled for release on October 22, 2026, for Nintendo Switch, Switch 2, PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X/S.

Described as a celebration of both classic and modern elements, the game features a strategic turn-based battle system and a cinematic pixel-art style. Players can utilize Visions—companions based on iconic characters like Cloud, Terra, and Squall—to aid in combat. The narrative follows Knight Commander Rain and his companion Laswell as they investigate irregularities in the Earth Shrine and travel through the Kingdom of Grandshelt.

Gameplay includes exploring airships, crystals, and various side content such as the Colosseum and encounters with legendary figures like Gilgamesh.
