Square nails and French ombré manicures lead summer beauty trend

Nail artists report a surge in demand for square nails this summer, a style defined by straight, flat tips and sharp corners that offers a clean, graphic finish. The modern version is softer than the early‑2000s acrylic version and has been spotted on celebrities such as Dua Lipa and Kylie Jenner, making it popular for everyday wear and special occasions.

At the same time, the French ombré manicure is gaining traction. The technique blends a pink or nude base into a white tip for a soft, gradient effect that looks effortless and “expensive.” Nail professionals Daisy Kalnina and Susan Carroll note that the look is low‑maintenance, hides regrowth, and pairs well with summer outfits. Recommended shapes include almond, oval or rounded‑square nails, which enhance the gradient’s elegance.
