Squillace and Sirolo launch local environmental and sustainability initiatives

The municipality of Squillace has officially begun its pursuit of the Blue Flag 2027 recognition. Represented by Tourism Councilor Natascia Mellace at a technical meeting hosted by FEE Italia at the CNR, the administration aims to meet international standards for environmental sustainability, water quality, and territorial valorization.

In Sirolo, construction has commenced on a green revitalization project following the municipality’s first-place ranking in the Cariverana Foundation’s “Capitale Naturale 2024” tender. Supported by a total of 460,000 euros from the foundation and public funds, the project focuses on the reforestation and protection of the wooded area below the historic village.

In partnership with the Università Politecnica delle Marche and Conero Park, the Sirolo initiative includes extraordinary maintenance using natural engineering, the restoration of abandoned pedestrian paths to Urbani beach, and the removal of invasive vegetation to promote biodiversity and geological resilience.
