Squillace Castle Hosts Maestro Cuccunato Cultural Review and Autumn Festival
The Norman Castle in Squillace, Calabria, opened its second edition of the Maestro Cuccunato Cultural Review, an event honoring the late educator, journalist and film critic. Scheduled from July 29 to August 26, the program includes book presentations, film screenings, poetry recitals, art installations and fundraising activities for muscular dystrophy and cancer research. Organisers include local cultural associations, the University of Calabria and the municipal and regional authorities.
Separately, the XXIII Autumn Festival, directed by Antonietta Santacroce, runs from September through October across venues in Squillace, Borgia and Catanzaro. Highlights feature the regional duo Ebbanesis, a centennial production of “Marilyn,” a tribute to Burt Bacharach, a carnival‑style DJ set by GNMR, and a performance by Massimo Ranieri at the Politeama. The festival combines music, theatre, dance and visual arts, aiming to reinforce the cultural identity of the Catanzaro area.
