Squillace Launches Free Night Shuttle for Young Clubbers to Prevent Drunk Driving

The municipality of Squillace in Calabria has introduced a free night bus service aimed at safely returning young people (aged 16 and over) from the popular nightlife spot of Soverato. The pilot, called “Estate in Sicurezza 2026”, operates on selected Saturday evenings during the summer, departing at 23:30 from two points in Squillace and returning at 05:00. The dates announced are 8 August, 15 August (Ferragosto) and 22 August.

The initiative, promoted by Tourism Councilor Natascia Mellace, is intended to curb drunken driving and fatigue‑related accidents, which frequently involve teenagers after late‑night outings. By providing a reliable, no‑cost transportation option, the town hopes to protect its youth and reduce road fatalities during the peak holiday season.
