Squinzano holds funerals for Lorena Isceri following fatal femicide

The community of Squinzano gathered on Wednesday to hold funerals for 45-year-old Lorena Isceri, who was killed by her former partner, Federico Vella, on the A1 motorway near Barberino del Mugello. The incident involved Isceri being kidnapped and held in a car trunk before being thrown from a highway viaduct.

Autopsy results revealed that Isceri was still alive when she was thrown from the viaduct and died upon impact from the 40-meter fall. The perpetrator, 36-year-old Federico Vella, committed suicide shortly after the crime.

The Florence Prosecutor's Office is investigating the case as kidnapping with the intent to commit murder and aggravated femicide due to premeditation. Investigators have seized electronic devices from the couple to reconstruct the events.

In response to the tragedy, the Mayor of Squinzano has proclaimed a period of municipal mourning. A candlelight procession is scheduled for Friday evening to honor Isceri's memory and advocate against gender-based violence.
