Squirrel survival strategies in drought and water

Squirrels employ various behavioral, physiological, and dietary strategies to survive environmental challenges such as droughts and aquatic encounters.

During drought conditions, squirrels mitigate dehydration by collecting dew, consuming succulent plants, and seeking alternative hydration methods. These periods of scarcity increase competition for remaining resources and heighten predation risks as squirrels travel further to find water.

While primarily terrestrial, squirrels are capable of swimming and can survive in water for short periods. However, they lack specialized aquatic adaptations, making their survival in water limited and dependent on specific circumstances.
