SR 169 near Black Diamond closes for months for culvert repairs

Washington State Department of Transportation (WSDOT) announced a multi‑year construction schedule for State Route 169 around Black Diamond. Beginning in mid‑August, the segment between Plass Road and Southeast 332nd Street will be fully closed for roughly 35 days, with motorists detoured onto Southeast Green Valley Road while local access remains permitted.

After completing work through the fall, the highway will stay open until a planned pause, resuming in spring 2027. In that year a separate closure of about 25 days is expected, followed later by a 60‑day full shutdown at the intersection of SR 169 and Black Diamond‑Ravensdale Road. The project targets five fish culverts under the highway, mandated by a 2013 court injunction to remove barriers. Work is slated to continue through 2028, subject to weather and other factors, with final completion projected for that year.
