Srebrenica district status proposed to address Bosniak security concerns

Political and academic discussions in Bosnia and Herzegovina have highlighted growing concerns regarding the security and institutional representation of Bosniaks. Geopolitical analyst Admir Lisica has proposed that Srebrenica should be established as a special district, separate from the administration of Republika Srpska. Lisica argues that the current administrative framework is unsustainable and fails to guarantee the safety of the Bosniak population, citing continuous political and police pressure from the Republika Srpska leadership.

Complementing these concerns, a recent conference in Sarajevo titled ‘The Position of Constituent Peoples and Others in the Institutions of Bosnia and Herzegovina’ addressed the weakening political and social influence of Bosniaks within state institutions. Observers noted that despite data revealing significant inequality and the marginalization of certain groups, there remains a lack of political will to implement structural changes. The discussions underscored a perceived trend of political actors seizing control of key institutional positions, further complicating the balance of power among the country's constituent peoples.
