Srebrenica Memorial Center Director files criminal complaint against BiH Finance Minister

Emir Suljagić, Director of the Srebrenica Memorial Center (MCS), has filed a criminal complaint with the Prosecutor's Office of Bosnia and Herzegovina against Minister of Finance and Treasury Srđan Amidžić. The complaint alleges that Amidžić has failed to implement a decision made by the High Representative, Christian Schmidt, in September 2023.

The High Representative's decision amended the Law on the Srebrenica Memorial Center, expanding its mandate to include genocide research and education. This included the establishment of a specific Department for Genocide Research and Education, tasked with collecting historical data, publishing research, and promoting education.

Suljagić claims that despite the legal changes, the Ministry of Finance and Treasury has failed to provide the necessary organizational and financial resources to allow the new department to function at full capacity. The complaint asserts that the Minister has “consciously and continuously” omitted his obligations, thereby preventing the Memorial Center from fulfilling its expanded legal mandate.
