Srebrenica–Potočari Memorial Center challenges tax probe

Lawyers representing the Srebrenica–Potočari Memorial Center have submitted a formal request to the Bijeljina District Public Prosecutor's Office seeking clarification regarding an investigation into alleged tax evasion.

The inquiry follows an anonymous report concerning work contracts from 2022. The legal team, Kešan & Ibeljić, has posed 17 questions to the prosecution, requesting details on the case number, the assigned prosecutor, the current stage of proceedings, and the specific contracts and individuals involved.

A primary point of contention is the prosecution's decision to summon 26 current and former employees and associates of the Memorial Center for questioning. The lawyers questioned the necessity of interviewing such a large number of people when the allegations in the anonymous report could potentially be verified through official financial and treasury documentation. The request also seeks to address concerns regarding the possible politicization of the proceedings and attempts to discredit the Memorial Center.
