North Macedonia Assembly adopts 2026-2030 Road Safety Strategy

The Assembly of North Macedonia has adopted the National Road Safety Strategy for 2026-2030 along with over 40 laws via an expedited procedure. The strategy serves as a framework for integrated measures to reduce road casualties and build sustainable infrastructure. The legislative changes aim to align existing laws with the Law on High-Ranking Officials, establishing a unified system for the selection and accountability of senior civil servants in state administration and funds.

The adoption faced opposition from the SDSM parliamentary group. Coordinator Oliver Spasovski criticized the process, stating the laws were passed without discussion and characterized the government's approach as “extremely unserious,” arguing the changes focus on specific individuals rather than genuine reform.

In other regional developments, the National Bank of Serbia issued a warning regarding the potential misinterpretation of statistical data concerning foreign exchange inflows to non-governmental organizations. Additionally, the city of Vršac in Serbia secured funding for a cross-border emergency resilience project, and the city of Đakovo in Croatia approved a 10.15 million euro loan for infrastructure and energy renewal projects.
