Sremska Mitrovica residents commute to Belgrade as local housing prices rise

Data from the 2022 Census by the Republic Statistical Office reveals that 982 economically active residents of Sremska Mitrovica commute to Belgrade for work. Located approximately 75 kilometers from the capital, the city serves as a residential hub for daily migrants who utilize the proximity to major highways.

Regarding the local real estate market, average asking prices for residential properties in Sremska Mitrovica reached 1,541 euros per square meter as of July 2024. While new constructions in attractive locations can exceed 2,000 euros per square meter, a budget of 100,000 euros allows for apartments between 60 and 75 square meters or houses with yards in the city area and nearby settlements like Laćarak.
