Søren Gade faces criticism within Venstre over fertilizer law vote
Internal conflict has emerged within the Danish political party Venstre following Søren Gade’s decision to vote against a proposed fertilizer law. The legislation, part of a green tripartite agreement intended to protect the marine environment from nitrogen runoff, is supported by the party line.
Trine Jepsen, a Member of Parliament for Venstre, criticized Gade on social media, labeling his actions as “illoyal behavior.” Jepsen argued that while members have the right to vote against proposals, Gade’s decision to announce his stance to regional media while party negotiators were still working on the matter was inappropriate.
Gade expressed his regret regarding the situation but stated he cannot support a proposal he describes as “foolish and without a factual basis,” claiming it undermines farmers and rural areas.
