Sørfold shark discovery: Dead spiny dogfish found near Norwegian cabin
A large, dead spiny dogfish shark was discovered near a family cabin at Straumen in Sørfold, north of Bodø, Norway. The discovery was initially met with skepticism by locals, who suspected the images shared in a family group chat might be AI-generated.
Otte Bjelland, a researcher at the Institute of Marine Research, confirmed the species as a spiny dogfish. Bjelland noted that the shark appeared to have been pulled onto land, though it is unclear how long it had been there, as the skin appeared dry despite the presence of fresh blood.
According to the researcher, sightings of spiny dogfish have been reported frequently this summer, often occurring when people are fishing in the area.
