Sérgio Moro elected governor of Paraná in first round

Senator Sérgio Moro (PL) has been elected governor of Paraná in the first round of voting, securing 50.10% of the valid votes. His victory was anticipated by polling from the Instituto Paraná Pesquisas, which had previously identified him as the isolated leader with a growing trend toward a first-round win.

In an interview, Moro characterized the election results as a rejection of President Lula’s administration, citing high inflation, debt, and interest rates as key factors. He also addressed the role of the judiciary, stating that Supreme Federal Court (STF) ministers have “lost control” and must be investigated to ensure they return to acting within the bounds of legality. Moro suggested that a more right-wing Senate in 2027 might consider the impeachment of STF members to address perceived judicial excesses.
