TCE-MT President arrested in Operation Tomada de Contas

Sérgio Ricardo de Almeida, president of the Mato Grosso State Court of Accounts (TCE-MT), was arrested preventively during the Federal Police operation “Tomada de Contas”. The investigation targets a suspected corruption and money laundering scheme involving the misuse of public contracts and irregular payments to officials.

Federal authorities allege that the group used a “parallel payroll” and pressured suppliers by suspending administrative contracts to facilitate the diversion of funds. Investigators identified suspicious financial movements totaling approximately R$ 75.8 million between January and October 2025. Sérgio Ricardo is reported to have made 150 cash withdrawals totaling R$ 15.6 million during this period.

The operation, authorized by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ), involved over 180 federal officers and search and seizure warrants across Mato Grosso, Mato Grosso do Sul, and São Paulo. In addition to the president, several other officials were arrested or removed from office, including legal consultant Grhegory Paiva Pires Moreira Maia and various counselors. Authorities also seized over R$ 5 million in cash, luxury watches, vehicles, and high-end wines during the raids.
