Sérgio Sacani and Rodrigo Silva to debate science and faith in Brasília

Science communicator Sérgio Sacani and theologian Rodrigo Silva are scheduled to debate the intersection of science and faith in Brasília on October 29. The event, hosted by the JETSS/Metrópoles Talks lecture series, will explore topics including the origin of the universe, the existence of God, archaeology, and the limits of human knowledge.

During preliminary discussions, Silva argued that the complexity of variables required for life on Earth makes it unlikely to be a mere coincidence. Sacani, representing a scientific perspective, suggested that the universe lacks inherent purpose and that human existence may be a result of chance. The debate will also touch upon the nature of intelligent life and the interpretation of spiritual beings through a scientific lens.
