Sri Lanka and China’s Yunnan Province sign trade agreement

Sri Lanka and China’s Yunnan Province have signed a memorandum of understanding to implement the “Three Free, Three Facilitation” trade framework. The initiative aims to expand the reach of Sri Lankan products in the Chinese market and lower costs for exporters.

Under the agreement, Sri Lankan businesses will receive free warehouse space, permanent exhibition booths, and online access to the Chinese market. Additionally, the framework provides support for customs clearance and transportation. The deal was finalized during a special-products promotion summit and business-matching event organized by Sri Lanka’s Department of Commerce and Yunnan’s Department of Commerce.

Key export sectors targeted for expansion include tea, food and beverages, spices, coconut products, seafood, gems, jewellery, and handicrafts. Sri Lanka also signed a letter of intent to participate in the 11th China-South Asia Expo in 2027 to further promote these industries.
