Sri Lanka and EU hold high-level investment talks in Colombo

Sri Lanka and the European Union held high-level investment talks in Colombo to discuss economic reforms and bilateral cooperation. The dialogue, which was elevated to the ministerial level this year, focused on improving the investment climate through initiatives such as a digital Single Window Investment Approval System, a proposed Investment Protection Bill, and the modernization of industrial zones and customs.

During the discussions, participants addressed the importance of preferential market access under the EU’s GSP+ scheme, which is set to expire at the end of 2026. The meeting also explored potential cooperation under the EU’s Global Gateway strategy.

In a related strategic move, Sri Lanka’s Prime Minister reaffirmed the nation's commitment to attracting transparent and sustainable foreign investment. The government stated it will prioritize partnerships that uphold human rights and environmental standards, seeking long-term value and ethical conduct over short-term capital inflows as part of the country's ongoing economic recovery.
