Sri Lanka arrests five suspects in fatal shooting of Kanjipani Imran’s relative

Sri Lankan authorities have arrested five suspects in connection with the fatal shooting of Mohamed Asmin Moideen, a relative of notorious underworld figure Kanjipani Imran. The shooting occurred on August 10 in Maligawatta, where two individuals on a motorcycle opened fire on Moideen, a hardware store owner, before fleeing. The suspects, which include a 21-year-old man and a 23-year-old woman, were apprehended by the Colombo North Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit. During the arrests, police recovered various amounts of crystal methamphetamine, known as ‘Ice’, and a motorcycle suspected to be used in the crime.

Investigators believe the killing may have been orchestrated by another organized crime figure, ‘Kudu Anju’, who is believed to be residing in France. The attack is suspected to be retaliation for the recent murder of an associate of Kudu Anju in the Ratmalana area. The arrested individuals are facing charges of aiding and abetting the killing.

In a separate but related development, officials confirmed that Kanjipani Imran, one of Sri Lanka’s most wanted criminal figures, is expected to be repatriated to the country soon. Authorities are currently finalizing the legal and logistical procedures required for his extradition to face justice.
