Sri Lanka expects over 50 mm rain and strong winds across multiple provinces

The Department of Meteorology warned that on June 29 heavy showers will affect the Western, Sabaragamuwa and North‑western provinces as well as Galle, Matara, Kandy and Nuwara‑Eliya districts, with rainfall exceeding 50 mm in some locations. Additional thundershowers are possible in Uva province and the Ampara and Batticaloa districts in the afternoon.

Strong gusts of 30‑40 km/h are forecast over the western slopes of the central hills and in the Northern, North‑central, North‑western, Southern provinces and Trincomalee district, with sea‑area winds reaching 50‑60 km/h. Rough seas and wave heights of 2‑3 m are expected along the coast from Chilaw to Pottuvil, prompting officials to advise the public to take precautions against strong winds, lightning and possible damage.
