Sri Lanka business confidence declines amid economic uncertainty

The LMD-PEPPERCUBE Business Confidence Index in Sri Lanka declined by two points in August, falling to 149 from 151 in July, as corporations express a more reserved outlook due to ongoing uncertainties.

Despite the dip in business confidence, some economic indicators show improvement. Official foreign reserves reached $6.591 billion by the end of July. Additionally, the Public Utilities Commission of Sri Lanka announced that electricity tariffs will not increase for the third quarter of the year.

Other significant challenges in the country include heavy rainfall and flash floods, a rise in dengue fever cases approaching 100,000, and ongoing legal and security concerns related to narcotics and prison conditions.
